OLIVETTI SHOWROOM
The Olivetti Showroom in Venice, designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1957-1958, is an iconic example of mid-20th-century modernism infused with traditional craftsmanship and Venetian architectural heritage. Commissioned by Adriano Olivetti, it served as a showcase for Olivetti’s innovative typewriters and office equipment. Scarpa's meticulous attention to detail, choice of materials, and sensitivity to the surrounding context are central to the design.
A standout feature is the staircase, designed as a sculptural centerpiece. The cantilevered steps, made from stone and brass, appear to float in space, enhancing the sense of lightness and movement. This staircase is emblematic of Scarpa's genius for combining functional elements with artistic expression.
